Round table held to discuss draft Law “On Food Safety”

On February 14, Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan and National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers') Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan co-organized a round table to discuss a draft Law “On Food Safety”.

The event aimed to raise awareness of industry-related parties and consumers of main principles and approaches set forth in the draft Law “On Food Safety” proposed by the Agency in order improve food safety in Azerbaijan. It also aimed to ensure inclusion of proposals and recommendations to be made during the discussion in the final version of the draft law.

The program of the discussion was developed with technical assistance provided under the European Union`s “Strengthening institutional capacity of the Government of Azerbaijan to ensure official control in the field of food and food safety”. The project was implemented as part of more than a 10-year long cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in the field of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy.

The event featured the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency and National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers') Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The sides stressed the necessity of strengthening collaboration in ensuring rights and responsibilities in the areas of activity set forth in the law, speeding up efforts to protect consumer rights, and expanding cooperation in supplying population with safe and quality food products.
