A delegation led by Goshgar Tahmazli, Chairman of the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited France.
Delegation of the Agency met with delegations led by Nico Horn, general director of European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization, Monic Elua, general director of OIE-World Organisation for Animal Health, Charles Martin, Head of European and International Sanitation Department of General Food Directorate of France and Jil Salvan, general manager for researches of National Agency on Food, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety.
During the meetings, G. Tahmazli briefed the participants about the mission and activities of the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, established within the framework of institutional reforms conducted by the head of state.
He spoke about the activities carried out by the Agency, the current situation in the field of plant protection and the problems that arising for provision of the population with healthy food products in the meeting with Nico Horn, general director of European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization. It was noted that 20% of the country's territory is under Armenian occupation and since these lands are out of control, it is impossible to combat pests in the field of plant protection and prevent them, leading to certain difficulties in phytosanitary control and export of plant products. It is impossible to provide plant health in the occupied lands and to apply quarantine if necessary, under current conditions. It was noted that EPPO, as a reputable international organization, can take certain measures in line with its mission in this direction and keep the phyto-sanitary situation in occupied Azerbaijani lands in focus.
Discussions were conducted for relevant technical support on capacity building for carrying out scientific research on plant health and phytosanitary control in our country, as well as plant health and phytosanitary control area. Initiative was put forward for conducting of regional activities of EPPO for "2020 International Year of Plant Health" in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
They exchanged views on the animal identification system and measures taken for animal health in the meeting with delegation led by Monic Elua, general director of OIE-World Organisation for Animal Health. Relevant technical support issues were discussed for getting of Absheron Peninsula the status of “disease-free zone”, establishing cooperation between the Food Safety Institute and the OIE Scientific Commission, scientific research in the field of animal diseases, as well as capacity building for animal health and veterinary.
Import and export procedures of food products, the issue of sharing experiences in monitoring the products at all stages of the food chain were discussed in meetings with delegations led by Jil Salvan, general manager for researches of National Agency on Food, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety and Charles Martin, Head of European and International Sanitation Department of General Food Directorate of France.
The delegation led by Goshgar Tahmazli also visited Belgium. The delegation met with Herman Diriks, Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Food Safety Service of the Kingdom of Belgium
The meeting focused on the exchange of experience on organization of food product tracking and retrieval system of food products at all stages of the food chain, the implementation of cooperation for capacity building in food safety, veterinary and phyto-sanitary cooperation, use of the experience of the Kingdom of Belgium for the establishment of animal identification and registration system.
The parties exchanged views on the exchange of experts on various food safety services, introduction of food safety registration of subjects, as well as studying the experience of Belgium on the structure of laboratories and capacity building.
